ABOUT

Who We Are

Cumbria Movement is a community-driven organization dedicated to promoting skateboarding, parkour, fitness, wellbeing, and creative arts across Cumbria. Through inclusive sports programs, coaching, events, and workshops, we support youth development, mental health, social inclusion, and physical fitness.

Our mission is to create safe, accessible spaces for people of all ages and backgrounds to learn new skills, build confidence, and stay active. By emphasizing skills development, we aim to enhance the quality of life for individuals and the community, while addressing socio-environmental challenges. We are committed to creating positive social change, tackling issues such as inequality, and providing opportunities for those from disadvantaged backgrounds to thrive.

We also align with environmental sustainability goals, working towards net-zero emissions through eco-conscious initiatives. By integrating urban sports with sustainability, we foster a greater sense of environmental awareness and responsibility within our community.

Whether you're interested in participating, volunteering, or supporting our cause, join us in fostering a positive impact through urban sports, promoting physical and mental well-being, and addressing socio-environmental issues. Together, we can create stronger, healthier communities and a more sustainable future for all.

About

Cumbria Movement is a collective of professional athletes, coaches, and stunt performers specializing in disciplines such as parkour, skateboarding, BMX, and rollerblading. They emphasize safety and proper training in their pursuits.

Promoting Active Transportation

Encouraging walking and cycling as sustainable modes of transport enhances physical fitness while reducing carbon emissions. Skill-related fitness components like balance and coordination are essential for safe and efficient cycling and walking. This approach aligns with the Zero Carbon Cumbria Partnership's goal to reduce emissions from transportation.

Supporting Sustainable Tourism

Cumbria's tourism industry can benefit from promoting outdoor activities that require skill-related fitness, such as hiking, kayaking, and mountain biking. These activities attract eco-conscious tourists and support local businesses, contributing to the county's economic and environmental goals. The Eco-I North West project, for example, focuses on carbon-cutting initiatives in the tourism sector.

Enhancing Community Engagement

Incorporating skill-related fitness into community programs fosters engagement and well-being. Active Cumbria, the county's Active Partnership, supports physical activity providers and sports clubs, promoting fitness and sustainability. Their efforts align with the broader net-zero objectives by encouraging active lifestyles that reduce reliance on carbon-intensive transportation.

Leveraging Funding Opportunities

Integrating fitness and sustainability can attract funding aimed at promoting healthy and eco-friendly lifestyles. For instance, the Community Climate Grants support local groups in reducing carbon emissions, which can include initiatives that promote active transportation and outdoor activities.

Their perseverance turned a gloomy day into an opportunity for creativity and resilience.
